Since a very young age
I have had an avid interest in the concepts of visual art. I began to write and illustrate in my
teens and continued to do so as a hobby. When I left school I worked for a photographic company
as a microfilmist. It was here that I acquired knowledge of the rudimentary processes of
photography, which has proved to be a valuable starting point for my current work. After this,
for a short while I pursued my artistic career working with disabled children as an art ancillary.
I then embarked on a complete change of career working in the commerce industry completing a BTEC
in business and finance, until the birth of my daughter Laura.
Since I never grew out of my adoration for the fantasy world and all it has to offer,
I enrolled onto a part time art class at my local college. This transition intensified my eagerness
to create a personal style of decorative imagery. Having studied for 2 years, I then progressed on
to the foundation course in Art and Design. The assignments I was given assisted to assimilate new
visions and ideas. After finishing the Pre-Degree it became apparent that my designs delineated toward
children’s illustration. I attended N.E.W.I North East Wales Institute in Wrexham were I completed a
Degree (B.A Hons) in Illustration for Children’s Publishing.
WORK
Although I experimented in a plethora of materials, I soon realised that watercolour and
coloured pencils were unequivocally the mediums that enhance and harmonize the technique I use to
create my designs: hence the assiduous attention to detail. The core of my work is based partly on
tradition together with a flair for contemporary wit, therefore I prefer to illustrate the inherent
qualities of the characters I enjoy developing.
